A Residence with a Remarkable Past
Designed by the architect of the General Council of Seine-et-Marne and constructed in 1845, the building served as a prison from 1855. For over a century, La Nef stood as a symbol of institutional history in Fontainebleau.
From 1995 to 2010, the building housed the National Prison Museum, which showcased the history of French prisons and attracted curious visitors.
